Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a new outlet to an existing circuit?

Yes, but it must be done safely to avoid overloading the circuit. Our master electricians can evaluate your current load and install a new outlet (receptacle) that meets modern building codes, including GFCI protection where required.

Why won't my GFCI outlet reset?

If a GFCI outlet won't reset, it is usually due to a "ground fault" where electricity is escaping the circuit, or the outlet itself has failed. First, check your main breaker panel. If the breaker is on, the outlet may need professional replacement to ensure your home remains protected from electrical shock.

Does ProLectric give free estimates for electrical work?

We offer free estimates for new electrical additions and replacements, such as adding outlets, installing EV chargers, or replacing electrical panels. For repair work where troubleshooting is required (like a tripping breaker), we provide a clear, upfront flat-rate price before any work begins.

Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

A tripping breaker is a safety mechanism usually caused by an overloaded circuit, a short circuit, or a ground fault. If your breaker trips repeatedly, do not continue to reset it; this can lead to a fire. A licensed electrician should inspect the circuit to identify the root cause.

When should I replace my electrical panel?

You should consider a panel replacement if your home is over 20 years old, if you are adding high-power appliances (like an EV charger), or if you have a dangerous brand like Federal Pacific, Stab-Lok, Sylvania, Challenger or Zinsco. Flickering lights and buzzing sounds are also major warning signs.
